Gekkoso Waste T-shirt
~A paint shop and a sewing factory join forces~
Gekkoso Waste T-shirts are original Gekkoso T-shirts that feature a modern silhouette and are made from 100% natural materials made in Japan for a comfortable fit. The neck is slim and elegant, and the sleeves are thick and long, giving the shirt a delicate, dressy look while also providing the functionality needed for artists' workwear.
The fabrics used are recycled material that would otherwise be discarded during the clothing production process by leading apparel brands, despite being of high quality.
The manufacturing partner is Nakano Apparel Co., Ltd., which develops sewing and fabrics for many famous brands. This unique collaboration product was born out of the resonance between Nakano Apparel, which aims to be a "sustainable sewing factory," and Gekkoso, which values "using everything to the last drop."
A rag is a piece of cloth used to clean dirty machines and equipment in factories. After you've worn out this T-shirt, with just a little care, it can be transformed into a rag with four brush marks. It can be used to wipe off paint, polish shoes, take care of furniture, and do other small everyday cleaning.
These rag T-shirts are made from high-quality recycled materials and are further reused. The more you wear them, the less resources are wasted and the less burden they place on the environment.
Gekkoso's desire to use both people's abilities and the roles of objects to the fullest, while transforming them into new forms, has been embodied in yet another project.
DETAILS
sewing method
Unlike mass-produced T-shirts that are usually sold in stores, we do not use an automatic cutting machine that cuts many pieces at once, but rather use the latest machine called a single-piece cutting machine to carefully manufacture each T-shirt while checking the condition and shape of the fabric. Although it takes time, it is characterized by the fact that no extra stress is placed on the fabric and it is less likely to lose its shape.
In addition, a specially modified sewing machine is used during sewing, and by making the seam allowance about 30% narrower than usual, we have achieved the combination of values that are both delicate and durable, while still giving the product an elegant European feel.
design
The owner of Gekkoso collected as many white T-shirts as possible from numerous apparel brands, tried them on, and took into account the artists' opinions to create a design that would cause the artists the least stress when creating their works.
The wide armholes allow for unrestricted movement. The long sleeves and generous body allow for a perfect outfit, even when worn alone as an outerwear piece.
The slightly wider neckline and narrower seams give it a delicate and elegant European feel. It has a sophisticated feel that is different from American T-shirts.
The long tag with the horn mark attached to the back of the garment can be hung on a hook for storage and is also a nice design accent. By scanning the QR code on the back of the tag, you can check the fabric information and instructions on how to reuse the garment as a rag after you've worn it out.
material
Although they are guaranteed to be made in Japan using 100% natural materials, materials, colors, and patterns are constantly changing depending on fabric availability.
Gekkoso's vision of "sustainability"
Long before the term SDGs was even coined, Gekkoso has consistently maintained the stance of "not wasting things" and "people and things fulfilling their roles to the end."
The spirit of "using up" permeates every aspect of life, not only in business terms such as not providing their own wrapping paper and thereby offering products at a lower price, but also in things like cutting the string used on a gift at the knot and reusing it as string again, or writing down small conversations with friends on the back of supermarket flyers to avoid wasting paper.
If you waste things, your eyes will eventually turn to other people. You will also start to judge people as necessary or unnecessary. People's consciousness is nurtured by their daily lives. Gekkoso believes that it is the way we live our daily lives that will slowly but surely change the world.
No matter how the times change in the Reiwa era, our attitude that we have always valued will not change. Gekkoso aims to create a society that values people and the environment through the common sense of "using things to the last detail."
