Genichiro Inokuma was an artist and a close friend of the founder of Gekkoso. We worked together on many Gekkoso products, including sketchbooks and postcards that have won the Good Design Award. One of these products is a collapsible dining table set made from solid wood. Unusually for a piece of furniture designed by Genichiro Inokuma, it has a simple, indigenous appearance that draws on the flow of folk art. The table top and seat of the chairs are set low, in keeping with the Japanese national character that prefers to look down and close to the ground.

This dining table set has been reproduced after 40 years.
The furniture was produced by Nakamuratani, a furniture store with over 170 years of history in Kagawa Prefecture. The intentions were faithfully interpreted from the sketches and letters of the time, and the design was reproduced in a blueprint, which is simple, sturdy, and humorous, truly embodying the philosophy of Gekkoso.

Tables and chairs can also be ordered separately.

Through these reproduction furniture pieces, we hope to widely communicate the beauty of wooden furniture, born from the intersection of genuine craftsmanship by artisans, which Gekkoso has always valued, and Inokuma's design philosophy.

*Usually the surface of the wood with fewer knots is used as the outer surface, but we deliberately turn the inner surface of the wood to the outer surface in order to bring out the look of the knots.
*The seats of the chairs are made from wood cut randomly so that each one has its own unique character, even though they have the same shape.
*The right and left drawers of the table are cut from the same area, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful flow of the wood grain.

・Since it is made of natural solid wood, the grain pattern is unique. Solid wood has the advantage of allowing you to enjoy the natural texture of the wood and increasing in style and flavor over time, but gaps may appear between the pieces of wood and the wood may warp. It is particularly sensitive to direct sunlight, air conditioning, and placing it near a stove. In addition, since it is an unpainted product, it will stain easily if you place wet dishes or cups directly on it. Do not place hot frying pans or pots directly on it.
